Walk the Magic Mile Helps Kiwanis Prevent Pediatric Trauma

Kiwanis Club of Coldwater Completes Fourth Annual Walk the Magic Mile

The Kiwanis Club of Coldwater has included all Kiwanis family members in a Walk the Magic Mile in their city for four years, raising over $9,000. Their club has used half or these funds to provide a Healthy Kids Day for their city while helping the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation be able to provide grants to other Kiwanis projects in Ohio.

Purpose

  • To focus Ohio District Kiwanians on childhood trauma and their community's needs.
  • To provide funding for Kiwanis focused Pediatric Trauma Prevention and Treatment projects within Ohio.

Project

  • The Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation in cooperation with the Ohio District Kiwanis clubs sponsors a statewide project to be held in April-May or September-October each year. The date may be the fourth Saturday in October in observance of "Make a Difference Day" or another date that is appropriate for the community. All Ohio Kiwanians are encouraged to participate in this focused event including all the Ohio District family organizations: Circle K, Key Club, Builders Club, K-Kids, and Aktion Clubs.
  • Each Kiwanis Club is asked to organize and manage a "Walk the Magic Mile" event in their community. Walkers are enlisted to secure pledges for their walk of one mile. Events have been held in parks, city sidewalks, indoor arenas and school track facilities. This limited scope makes it possible for many to participate who could not do a longer walk or run. The funds are collected by the local club and sent to the Foundation.
  • Use of Proceeds

Clubs may request one half of their funds back for a project addresses Pediatric Trauma Prevention and Treatment in their community. The other half is used in the permanent endowment of the Foundation where the earnings are used for grants awarded in the state of Ohio.
