First Family Project 2010-2011

Kiwanis Clubs and Kiwanis members are asked to support the First Family Project by raising funds for Pediatric Trauma, Prevention and Treatment. This has been the focus of the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation since 2003. All funds collected through this project will be used for grants for Kiwanis-sponsored projects which provide treatment or prevention of pediatric trauma. The special interest of the entire DeVilbiss family is in the area of safe pediatric transport. The Foundation's grant application process will be used to determine recipients of the funds.

The Foundation has agreed to split donations of $500 between the Foundation endowment funds and the First Lady's Project and will provide a Past International Presidents Award for a recipient chosen by the donor.

Safe Pediatric Transport

Safe pediatric transport projects will be possible for clubs of all sizes. CHAD labels and comfort bears are inexpensive items which can have a big impact in your community. Car seat safety checks will protect children while transported in private cars. Pedi boards, Safeguard Child Transport and blow up child car seats are used in emergency squad transport. Working with your local emergency squads, your club can identify items which will help them meet legal requirements for the transport of children after accidents.

Activities Throughout the Ohio District

Clubs throughout the District are meeting with their emergency squads to determine the equipment that they need. Safety Day events are an excellent way to educate the public about safe transport of children. Thousands of CHAD Stickers have been given out. Many clubs have expanded their annual events to include this education. Grants from the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation have matched what some clubs are able to provide from their local fundraising activities. Report the activities of your local club to Governor John and First Lady Wande DeVilbiss.
